Genealogical Society of South Brevard (GSSB)
The GSSB Library
|
GSSB maintains its
genealogical library
holdings in the Genealogy
Room of the Melbourne
Public Library.
Staffed by volunteer members, the
library currently consists of 3600
books, 475+ periodicals, 130+
CD-ROMs, 170 microfilms and 3100
microfiche. There are one microfiche
and two microfilm readers, plus two
computers with CD-ROM readers.
Special collections include Melbourne
City Hall records and the Farley
collection. In addition the library
contains a surname database compiled
by the members of all genealogy
societies of East Central Florida.
Library materials are owned by the
Society and paid for through
membership dues and donations.
The Society has a unique practice
whereby a member may pay half
for a desired book and the library
committee pays the other half and
orders the book. The member may
peruse the book privately for a
month before it is placed on the
library shelves.
